These no-bake iron-rich date balls are nutritious, fun to eat and delicious. These balls are made of dates, nuts, flax meal and chocolate to top. They serve as a great iron-boosting snack for adults, kids and toddlers.

I love to make these balls, especially for my toddler and I to snack on throughout the week. Iron is so important for our health, and these balls provide a perfect dose of much needed iron to our diets. These balls are also full of fiber and antioxidants.

These balls are as healthy as they are delicious! They’re sweet, and full of texture and flavor. And they’re so easy to make! To prep you soak your dates and roast your almonds. Then throw the almonds and flax into a food processor and mix. Then throw in the dates and mix. Form into balls and pour some melted chocolate over if desired.

These are a great snack to make to have throughout the week. They’re portable, and easy to pack and eat on the go. We eat them as snacks but we also eat them sometimes in the mornings for breakfast! I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

Ingredients

You will need Whole Almonds – other nuts that are high in iron will work too, Ground Flax meal or Flaxseeds, Dates, Chocolate Chips – optional and Coconut Oil – optional.

For Littles

I make these for my toddler to make sure she is hitting her iron requirements. Iron is important for little ones when it comes to brain development and function, immunity and even sleep. You can serve these to your little 9 months +!

How To

Make sure you prep your dates and almonds *see directions below.

In a food processor, combine the almonds and flax. Pulse until fine. Then add in your dates and pulse until a dough is formed.

Form into 12 1/2 tablespoon-sized balls. Then if making chocolate drizzle, combine chocolate chips and coconut oil. Melt and then drizzle over the balls.

Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes and enjoy!:)

  • In a food processor, process the almonds and flax until fine (see picture above). Then add in soaked dates and pulse until a dough is formed.

  • If you are making a chocolate drizzle, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a glass measuring cup and microwave for 20 seconds and stir until melted.
  • Drizzle the chocolate over the date balls. Place these in the fridge for 20 minutes, until set.
  • Serve! You can store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Enjoy!:)

Notes

  • * I only had ground flax meal on hand, but whole flax seeds can be used! You can throw them in the sauce pan with the almonds to roast if you would like.
