Toddler Hot Chocolate

I made this 4-ingredient hot chocolate for Willow so that she could enjoy some holiday cheer without all of the sugar and additives you get from prepackaged hot chocolate. Even some homemade hot chocolate recipes can be loaded with sugar…this one is not. But it is still just as delicious and rich! I like to serve the hot chocolate with a little peppermint candy cane to make it festive. Willow likes to swirl the candy cane in the hot chocolate and then slurp on the candy cane! So cute! I hope your toddlers love this hot chocolate as much as we do!

Ingredients

You will need Cacao Powder. I love cacao powder because it is unprocessed but gives you that rich chocolate flavor. And it is so good for you! I use this one here. You will also need Chocolate Chips and Milk of your choice. Honey is also needed for sweetener.

For Littles

You can serve this to your littles ones 12 months+! The reason is that cacao has a bit of caffeine in it, so it’s best to not serve it to your baby if they are under 12 months. Babies also should not have honey under 12 months of age. Make sure you let the hot chocolate cool a bit before serving!

How To

In a small sauce pan, bring your milk to a low simmer. Then add in the rest of the ingredients and whisk until the chocolate has melted completely.

Let cool for a couple minutes, then serve.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk of your choice (I use whole milk)

  • 2 teaspoons cacao powder

  • 1 tablespoon chocolate chips

  • 1 tablespoon honey (or more if desired)

Directions

  • Place a small saucepan over medium heat and pour in the milk. Let the milk warm until it’s reached a soft simmer.
  • Once softly simmering, add in the rest of your ingredients and whisk. Whisk until all the chocolate has melted. This should take 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let sit in the saucepan for a few minutes to cool, stirring every 30 seconds so a film/skin doesn’t form on the top of the hot chocolate. Then pour into little glasses or mugs for your littles.
  • Serve with a candy cane, homemade whip cream or on its own. Enjoy!:)
