Homemade hamburger helper is a lunch and dinner staple in my house. It’s comforting, filling and full of nostalgic flavor. Best part, it’s made in one pot.

You can call this recipe a pantry pull, because you will most likely have all these ingredients on hand. I make this for lunch or dinner when I am unsure of what to make or when I am low on time. This meal is protein-packed and full of that nostalgic hamburger helper flavor! I used to love hamburger helper as a kid, but now I make it homemade like this for my daughter.
I love how quick it is to make and how it only leaves me with one dish to clean. My toddler and I devour this every time I make it. I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

One Pot Hamburger Helper
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- 15 oz can tomato sauce
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 1/2 cup shell pasta or pasta of your choice
- 2 cup freshly grated cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Warm a large pot over medium heat and then add in the ground beef and sauté until the beef is cooked. Drain out all the grease.
- Add in the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper and stir until the beef is coated in the spices.
- Add in the tomato sauce, beef broth, pasta and stir. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a medium/low and let cook, stirring every couple minutes. Cook until the pasta is cooked and most of the liquid is reduced (some liquid is still good, you don’t want a dry hamburger helper). This could take anywhere from 10-15 minutes depending on the pasta you use.
- Turn off the heat and add the cheese. Stir until combined.
- Serve warm! You can store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Enjoy!:)
