Homemade hamburger helper is a lunch and dinner staple in my house. It’s comforting, filling and full of nostalgic flavor. Best part, it’s made in one pot.

You can call this recipe a pantry pull, because you will most likely have all these ingredients on hand. I make this for lunch or dinner when I am unsure of what to make or when I am low on time. This meal is protein-packed and full of that nostalgic hamburger helper flavor! I used to love hamburger helper as a kid, but now I make it homemade like this for my daughter. minutesIngredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 yellow onion chopped
3 garlic cloves minced or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
15 oz can tomato sauce
3 cups beef broth
1 cup shell pasta or pasta of your choice
2 cup freshly grated cheddar cheese
Directions
- Warm a large pot over medium heat and then add in the ground beef and onion. Sauté until the beef is cooked. Drain out all the grease.
- Add in the garlic, paprika, salt, pepper and stir until the beef and onions are coated in the spices.
- Add in the tomato sauce, beef broth, pasta and stir. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a medium/low and let cook, stirring every couple minutes. Cook until the pasta is cooked and most of the liquid is reduced (some liquid is still good, you don’t want a dry hamburger helper). This could take anywhere from 10-15 minutes depending on the pasta you use.
- Turn off the heat and add the cheese. Stir until combined.
- Serve warm! You can store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Enjoy!:)
